Another day, another Helldivers 2 patch amid ongoing discussion surrounding yesterday’s Helldivers 2 patch. The latter is due to the introduction of new balancing changes affecting some weapons. Thankfully, one of Arrowhead’s developers has provided a bit more detail as to why one gun was nerfed.
These latest changes to weapons, enemies, and mission strengths are the first major changes to affect the game, as the first set sparked a number of rather unpleasant exchanges between angry community members and developers early last month. Clearly there was no discussion this time. Right, considering that last week some new guns were added to the game’s arsenal for people to try out? You want it, buddy.

The main point of contention that some players have about the changes in patch 01.000.200 concerns the SG-8S Slugger shotgun, which was popular in a similar way to the railgun before the last balancing patch. But as Arrowhead’s senior game designer Alex Kravchenko explained to players on the game’s Discord server, the reason for the Slugger nerf wasn’t just because it was too popular.
In response to someone suggesting that this factor was the reason Arrowhead chose the shotgun since many players don’t have easy access to the PLAS-1 Scorcher, Kravchenko wrote: “The reason for the slugger nerf.” He went on to explain: “The truth is, [the] The Slugger was the best sniper rifle, but as you know, it’s not suitable for shotguns.”
After a player suggested that a buff to diligence might be a better way to solve the problem, Kravchenko argued: “A sniper rifle should not match a shotgun. Their use cases are completely different.” “As you can see, we are also looking into sniper rifles,” the developer said. [the Diligence Counter Sniper], [the] Dominator, and [the] “With AMR in this patch, I would say we’ve reached our goal.”
Considering Reddit’s reaction to at least the first of these comments, it looks like Arrowhead will have more work to do to convince Slugger enthusiasts that this nerf is worth it. Kravchenko says Arrowhead is working on anything but the game’s sniper rifles that would require these adjustments. Part of the nerf is the gun’s stagger and destructive power – two traits players claim are not key to long-range proficiency. – I’m stuck.
The developer also confirmed that “current issues such as arc thrower misfires, windows not locking properly, misaligned sights… should and will be fixed in the future.” “by the way. [a] “It is a time-consuming and iterative process, so all we need is time and your trust.”
In line with this philosophy, the small patch 01.000.201 released to the game today introduces a single “fix for a common crash when accessing the acquisition menu” that has occurred since yesterday’s patch.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t include any fixes for crashes caused by snowballs, so you won’t be able to engage in snowball fights unless you’re willing to risk it.
