AI is not a magic potion. It’s better than that.
I’ve been diving deep into online writing communities recently, and people have a lot of different opinions about AI.
Last week, I read a post by Sarah, a freelance writer I follow on LinkedIn. She was raving online about how “AI content is killing creativity.” She asked ChatGPT to write a blog post for her, and the results were… mediocre at best.
And then there’s the Medium writer who wrote a damning article about an “experiment” with AI writing. After generating a few articles and showing how bland they were, he proudly declared that he had proven that AI content is “useless.”
Usually I get over these emotional reactions quickly. But this time I realized something.
When these writers criticize “AI content,” they secretly want the same ideal scenario: type “write a blog post” into ChatGPT, hit enter, and voila! You get perfect content in an instant.
And since this scenario doesn’t happen, it seems to them that AI is completely useless.
Then I had a bigger realization: this concept, which Sarah and countless other writers share, is a kind of magical thinking.
