Design and Function
I have to admit, the MixPro looks a bit like a Star Wars pod racer: it has two propellers and two control buttons/triggers, one on each side.
Press the left button for 3 seconds to turn on the device.
Pressing both buttons will activate the motor. Releasing either button will stop the motor. While the motor is running, double pressing the right button will toggle between low and high speeds.
If you look at MixPro, there are several features that you can see.
There is an orange switch on the right arm (in the photo it is flipped over to the left).
That switch locks the right control button and prevents accidental motor operation. I’m surprised they didn’t put it on the opposite side, since the other button is what powers the device. There’s no way to turn it off. It automatically turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity. Why not lock that button?
The battery compartment is also located on the bottom of the MixPro.

The MixPro is available with optional buoyancy wings. The wings are designed to not descend more than 5 m below the surface, but the MixPro itself has a depth rating of 40 m.
You can see the screw mounting holes for the phone holder provided on the top back of the wing. The holder is just a holder. You need to provide a waterproof housing for the phone. Of course, Sublue sells the one they sell on their website. The bracket on the wing wraps around the front of the MixPro. The rubber tabs hold it on the side and the suction cups attach it to the top of the MixPro.
The wing attaches to the action camera mount on the front of the MixPro. There is a second action camera mount so you can attach an action camera while the wing is installed. Unfortunately, it is not visible to the user, so you will need the optional extension mount (also available from Sublue) to use the action camera effectively.
Each propeller is housed within a protective cage.
The front cover can be removed by turning it, and the propeller can be taken out for cleaning and lubrication.
Assembly, Installation, Setup
The MixPro arrives fully assembled. You will need to charge the battery with the included charger and install the battery. You will also need to decide whether you want to use the buoyancy wings and install them if you wish.
Performance
With the battery charged and installed, holding down the left button for 3 seconds will turn the MixPro on. The status LED will light up to indicate the device is on and the relative charge level. Five purple flashing LEDs will indicate that the charge is complete and the MixPro is ready to go. Pulling both trigger buttons will cause the LEDs to glow purple when the motors are running. Double-pressing the right button while the motors are running will cause the LEDs to turn yellow (the manual says orange, but it looks yellow to me) and the motors will switch to high speed. Double-pressing again will return them to low speed. As the battery depletes, the number of LEDs that light up will decrease. When the battery is low, the LEDs will turn red and all five will flash red between the speed color and the appropriate number of LEDs indicating charge level.
We took it to the local pool and tried it out. First, my wife and I each tried attaching buoyancy wings. The wings float the unit, so when we let go, it just sits on the surface.
The scooter had some traction and had no trouble propelling my lovely wife or myself, who is much larger and has more resistance. It was easy to maneuver and easy to use. The pool was only 5 feet deep but I had no trouble diving in it.
After a few laps each, I took off the wings and tried again. I thought I would feel something different, but surprisingly, I didn’t. I felt easy to control and easy to use. The biggest difference was that when I let go of the wings, it quickly sank to the bottom.
The included wrist strap helps to mitigate the risk of sinking. It wraps around the handlebar and wrist to prevent you from losing the scooter. There is also a quick release clip in case something goes wrong and you need to drop it.
I did a few laps, one at slow speed and one at high speed. In a very unscientific test, I timed myself to get an estimate of my speed. Both laps were calculated to be just over 2 MPH. That was well below the stated speed, but the test was not fair. The pool is only 75 feet long, so the scooter just reached top speed and I was already on the other side of the wall. In my unscientific sense, the high speed definitely felt faster than the low speed, although it didn’t show up in the lap times. To get a more accurate speed, I would need to do a long ride and time at the midpoint where the scooter is not accelerating from a standstill. Based on my timing of just over 2 MPH, including acceleration and stopping, I would say that the estimates of 2.68 MPH and 4 MPH are probably reasonable.
The MixPro had no trouble pulling us both into the water. I thought it was impressive, even though it was very buoyant. I’m sure I’d run out of depth long before the MixPro when diving.

One thing I noticed is that I can really feel the MixPro in my hands and forearms. This scooter pulls hard and you have to hold on tight, especially in high-speed mode. It’s not a bad thing, but it’s something to be aware of. The MixPro scooter definitely has some power, and that’s what makes it great.
When I read the specs, I was not impressed with the battery life at all. Seriously, only 20 minutes on high-speed mode? That’s ridiculous, right? Well, let’s say the specs are exaggerated and it can probably do 3 MPH. Well, 3 MPH for 20 minutes is a mile! A mile is a long way to go when snorkeling! Plus, I think you’ll be using the low-speed mode most of the time, so you’ll have time to take in the sights. Plus, since you’ll be stopping to take in the sights more often, the battery will last longer. That’s why Sublue claims 60 minutes of battery life for intermittent use, and I agree. In our tests, we got over 35 minutes out of the battery, mostly continuous use, and most of that on high-speed mode. I think the battery claim is accurate.
One problem I had was switching speed modes. While cruising, I would double press the right trigger. Sometimes it would change speed, sometimes it wouldn’t. I couldn’t figure out if I was doing it wrong and eventually I would change speed every time, but it took several tries.
Another thing I don’t like is that there is no way to turn the device off. It powers off after 10 minutes of inactivity. It would be better to hold the left button down for 3 seconds like the power-on sequence. Even then, flipping the lock switch prevents the motor from accidentally starting, which is a minor issue.
Speaking of power, the rated power capacity of the lithium battery is 122.1Wh. As far as I know, TSA has issues with batteries rated over 100Wh, so it could be a problem when flying.
What I Like About the Sublue WhiteShark MixPro Underwater Scooter
- It’s relatively light and portable, making it ideal for packing for travel.
- Easy to use and operate.
- Surprisingly good battery life
What needs to be improved?
- I wish I could turn off the device without removing the battery.
- I think the trigger lock should be on the left side to prevent accidentally powering the device on.
- Since you need to use both hands, you can’t use any other action camera besides the one mounted on the front of the scooter or on your head. An articulating stick mount can help.
- Large capacity batteries may cause TSA problems when flying.
Final Thoughts
English: I wasn’t sure what to expect from the Sublue WhiteShark MixPro underwater scooter. I’m a big guy, and I have a lot to drag around, especially in the water. I was pleasantly surprised. The MixPro scooter had enough power to get me through the water at a good speed. It’s very maneuverable, so anyone from kids to adults can use it. I’m not sure how I’d handle it, since I take a lot of photos and videos while snorkeling. I’ll also be using the included safety strap, even with the buoyancy wings attached, because I don’t want the MixPro to float away when I’m looking at something cool under the waves. The reason I’m thinking about this is because I saw a place for it in my bag on my next cruise that includes snorkeling. I really liked it.
