Sonos won’t be reviving the old app to help users who have trouble using the new one.
This is according to Sonos CEO Patrick Spence, who shared the news in a Reddit AMA (via The Verge ).
“Until very recently, I was hopeful that I would be able to re-release my previous app (S2) as a replacement for those who were still experiencing issues that I had not yet resolved,” Spence wrote.

“The trick, of course, is that Sonos is not just the mobile app, but also the software that runs on the speakers and in the cloud. In the months since the new mobile app was released, we’ve been updating the software that runs on the speakers and in the cloud, and today the S2 is less stable and less reliable than you remember. After extensive testing, we reluctantly concluded that re-releasing the S2 would make the problems worse, not better. It would be disappointing. I’m disappointed,” he added.
The issue Spence is referring to is related to the company’s new app, which was released in April but was so bad and buggy that the company apologized in July. The Sonos app is a key component of the company’s ecosystem of home speakers, soundbars, and headphones, and if it doesn’t work properly, it can cause a lot of headaches for Sonos product owners.

In July, the company laid out a plan to address the issues over the next few months, but it appears things haven’t gone as smoothly as intended, with Sonos delaying the launch of two products until all the bugs are ironed out.
