Gaming giant Nintendo will be skipping Gamescom this year, which has raised concerns about when we’ll first get our hands on the Switch 2.
Gamescom is Europe’s largest gaming festival held in Cologne, Germany. Every year hundreds of thousands of visitors attend to see the stands and presentations of 1000s of exhibitors.
However, as first reported by German website Games Wirtschaft, Nintendo will not be attending the 2024 edition of Gamescom, which takes place in late August.
Nintendo has always participated in Gamescom events in the past, so its decision to skip this year’s show is a concern for many gamers. Especially considering that Switch 2 is rumored to release in March 2025.
Nintendo did not give a reason for skipping Gamescom 2024, but said in a statement to Games Wirtschaft and Eurogamer that it had “carefully considered” the decision.
Nonetheless, we believe this is something Nintendo can do. Focus on Nintendo Direct presentation to reveal new console. Based on Nintendo’s past schedule, we believe the Switch 2 reveal will happen in October or November 2024.
additionally, Skipping Gamescom will help prevent further leaks about Switch 2. From surfacing. If Nintendo isn’t at the show, the new console could be kept private until it’s revealed.
Previously, Nintendo revealed new consoles through invitation-only presentations for the press at trade shows like Gamescom and E3. However, holding these events in a more secure location, such as Nintendo’s offices, can help prevent information leaks.
So even if Nintendo isn’t attending Gamescom, you have little to worry about! The Switch 2 still appears to be on track for an early 2025 release date, but Nintendo is probably being very cautious about leaks.
