If these rumors are to be believed, the biggest new games may not run at 60FPS at 4K resolution on PS5 Pro.
The yet-to-be-announced PS5 Pro is one of the worst-kept secrets in gaming right now, and there’s been a lot of leaked information about the console.
First, the PS5 Pro release period was revealed, and then the specifications of the PS5 Pro were revealed through a large-scale leak. But now Insider Gaming claims to know something about the console’s AI upscaling system, and that could be bad news, at least for now!
4K 60 FPS may be impossible for many games
Insider Gaming claims to have read confidential documents about Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) system, which will use AI to enhance graphics on the PS5.
This technology will be a big step forward in gaming, but it doesn’t seem like it will be that groundbreaking for PS5 Pro.
According to Insider Gaming, PS5 Pro targets 4K 60FPS or 8K 30FPS. However, even with PSSR this may not be possible.
One of the leaked documents, reported by Insider Gaming, includes details on how two of the company’s Sony games will be tested on the PS5 Pro.
The first unnamed game that runs at 1080p 60FPS or 1800p 30FPS on the base PS5 will not be able to run at 4K 60FPS on PS5 Pro. Due to the improved performance of PS5 Pro and PSSR upscaling, it can only reach 1440p 60FPS.
It’s definitely an upgrade, but it’s a far cry from the 4K 60FPS fans were hoping for. And even if you don’t know which games were tested, there’s a good chance that others will be the same.
In another test revealed by Insider Gaming, the PS5 Pro was able to run another unnamed game using ray tracing at 60FPS. Meanwhile, the base PS5 could only manage 60 FPS with ray tracing turned off.
The PS5 Pro may not guarantee 4K 60 FPS in the most graphically demanding titles, but Sony still has very ambitious plans for PSSR!
PSSR AI upscaling target
Insider Gaming claims: PlayStation wants to hit 4K 120FPS and 8K 60FPS gaming goals. The future.
It’s nearly impossible on the PS5 Pro, but this is a goal for future Sony consoles.
Judging by the current state of the game, not even the PlayStation 6 can output 4K 120FPS. Only the most powerful gaming PCs can run games at that resolution and frame rate, and they cost thousands of dollars.
So don’t expect 4K 120FPS on PS6. However, by the time Sony launches its next-generation consoles, 4K 60FPS will almost certainly be the standard.
Stay tuned for official information on the PlayStation 5 Pro once Sony announces the console. We expect it to be revealed at a PlayStation Direct presentation in the summer of 2024.
