I want you to play with me super mario 64, but are you tired of the same old levels? A fan-made mod that generates random levels might be what you’re looking for.
Super Mario 64 may not be a timeless game, given its sometimes clunky controls and funky level design, but it was a game that many people thought they would play forever. This game is the blueprint for many 3D games, the first 3D Nintendo title, and the gaming industry wouldn’t be the same without it. However, unless you like repetition, you might find playing the same levels a bit boring. Luckily, a developer named Twilight has created a mod for the classic platform that randomly generates levels, giving you the chance to play Super Mario 64 forever (thanks, GamesRadar).

Above you can see the mode, aptly titled Infinite Mario 64. This mod shows several different randomly generated levels in action. Once you look at it, you can see that they are all a bit rudimentary. Most of them are just basic shapes and slopes with coins and exclamation mark blocks scattered about. As always, the main goal is to reach the end of the level and become a star. What would a level be without its shiny, potentially sentient (with eyes, after all) stars?

Simple or not, it’s a cool project, especially if you want to test your Mario 64 skills. To be honest, this sounds like a shout-out to those who have been patiently (or impatiently) awaiting the sequel to 2017’s Super Mario Odyssey. After all, it’ll probably be at least another year before the Switch 2 comes out, and who knows when the new 3D Mario will be released?
