Microsoft is improving how AI-powered Copilot works in Microsoft Teams with new ways to invoke the assistant in meeting chat, summaries, and more.
Copilot can already summarize Teams meetings, but in the coming months it will combine audio recordings and written chats into a single view, making it easier to catch up on meetings you may have missed.
Copilot in Teams has also improved chat message composition, giving Teams users new ways to compose messages. “Copilot allows you to add a call to action or tailor your message the way a pirate speaks,” Microsoft says in a blog post. “Soon you’ll also be able to create new messages based on the context of a Teams chat.”
According to Microsoft, Intelligent Call Summaries for existing Teams calls “will be generally available through Teams Premium in the next quarter.” Intelligent Call Summary automatically takes notes during calls, so you can summarize phone calls and follow up without having to awkwardly take notes.
All of these AI improvements to Microsoft Teams are small in themselves, but they provide a more flexible Copilot within Teams. Teams’ Copilot integration is already one of the most impressive examples of Microsoft’s AI integration into Office apps. You can quickly summarize a meeting thanks to a summary that tells you exactly what was said and when in the meeting.
In addition to continuing to push Copilot in Teams, Microsoft is also rolling out a new hybrid meeting feature within Teams designed to improve the experience for remote and in-room participants. Automatic camera switching for the IntelliFrame feature in Teams Rooms will be available later this year. Use AI to choose the best camera for you – a conference room camera or a laptop. It is designed to automatically switch camera views to ensure remote participants have the best view, especially when certain cameras are obscured.
In the April preview, speaker recognition is also available for all microphones in Teams rooms. This allows you to register your voice and face profiles to ensure that everything you say in a Teams meeting is correctly picked up in your transcript.
Finally, Microsoft has several new carriers supporting the Teams Phone mobile feature, which allows you to have a single phone number for Teams and mobile devices. “We’re excited to announce that several new partners, including AT&T, Odido, Virgin Media O2, and Vodafone UK, will begin offering Teams Phone Mobile later this year,” Microsoft said.
