Meta is working to please regulators in the EU and has finally announced that it will start labeling AI content on some social media platforms. The company confirmed it would change the way it handles manipulated media based on feedback from its oversight board and a poll-driven policy review process. The changes will be implemented across Facebook, Instagram, and Threads and will include “Made with AI” adoption. Labels for AI-generated video, audio, and images detected by Meta’s tools.
Currently, Meta has added ‘Imagined with AI’ to photorealistic images created using AI functions. However, the new label covers a broader range of content beyond the manipulated content that the Oversight Board recommends labeling.
If you believe that a digitally created or altered image, video, or audio poses a particularly high risk of materially misleading the public about an important matter, you may want to add a prominent label to give people more information and context. .
According to Meta, users should be able to view labeled AI-generated content starting in May 2024. The social network company also announced in July that it would stop removing content based solely on its manipulated video policy.
