Rumors have been swirling for months about the launch of a new OLED iPad Pro and a refreshed sixth-generation iPad Air tablet, and now we finally know when they’ll be announced. After missing the rumored March 26 release date, it now appears that May will be the month when Apple finally finalizes its next tablet update.
The new iPad has reportedly begun mass production overseas with plans to announce the new tablet in May, but a more specific schedule has not been disclosed. This is according to an anonymous source previously interviewed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who said Apple may choose an April launch window depending on the availability of required iPadOS software updates.
The launch of the new tablet will be Apple’s first time in over a year after going through the entirety of 2023 without announcing a new tablet.
May is such a day
Sharing the news in a Bloomberg report, Gurman said the launch will “center around improved versions of the iPad Pro and iPad Air.”
The new iPad Pro is expected to be the first to feature an OLED display and be powered by the M3 chip. Apple’s new iPad Air is expected to use the M2 chip, and the 11-inch version will be joined by an all-new 12.9-inch option for the first time. The new tablet will be an alternative to the more expensive iPad Pro for people who want a larger tablet but don’t need the extra power or cost of Apple’s top model.
Apple is also expected to unveil the Apple Pencil 3 and a new Magic Keyboard with metal construction. There’s also been talk of Apple Vision Pro supporting Apple Pencil, but it’s unclear whether this will work with this model or future models.
