The Game of Thrones spinoff series focusing on Jon Snow is no longer in production. Kit Harington himself, who plays Snow on the HBO show, confirmed the news to ScreenRant.
He said there are currently no performances going on. “It wasn’t possible because we couldn’t find the right story to say that we were all excited enough.” So we decided to stop development ‘for the time being’. “In the future,” Harrington said, he hopes there will come a time when he returns to the idea. “But that’s not the case now. It’s securely mounted on a shelf,” he said.
A 2022 report suggested that HBO was considering a Jon Snow series, which writer George RR Martin later confirmed and said was Harington’s idea. But in Hollywood, development means the show is being developed. As part of the development process, the team experiments with story ideas and concepts to determine, among other things, whether they can be seen through release. That’s not the case with the Jon Snow series, as Harington and team clearly haven’t found the material compelling enough to move forward.
“I’ve never really talked about it, because it’s in development. I didn’t want it to get leaked that it was in development, and I didn’t want something to happen that would cause people to start theorizing and getting excited about something that might never happen. “Or they hate the idea,” he said. “Because during development you can look at all angles and see if it’s worth it.”
In May 2023, HBO’s Francesca Orsi said that the team was “working deeply with the writers” to put the Jon Snow series together. But at the time, Orsi didn’t know if the show would “make it to the end,” and now Harington has confirmed it won’t.
While the Jon Snow series is off the air, Season 2 of HBO’s hit House of the Dragon series will premiere this June. After that, the Hedge Knight series is scheduled to be released in 2025.
