technology
YouTube Shorts’ new video creation technology will help millions of people realize their creative visions.
Artificial intelligence (AI) technology for generating creative content is advancing rapidly, but methods for using it seamlessly are not yet widely available.
We’re changing that, making this incredible technology more accessible to millions of creators and billions of users around the world. In the coming months, we’ll be making our advanced generative AI models, Veo and Imagen 3, available to YouTube creators via Dream Screen.
From the groundbreaking Transformer architecture to years of diffusion model research, these models build on nearly a decade of innovation at Google and are now optimized for broad use.
Throughout this journey, we’ve worked closely with artists and creators, leveraging their curiosity and feedback to ensure our technology helps more people realize their creative visions.
Creators can now create videos with Dream Screen.
By integrating Veo into Dream Screen, YouTube creators will soon be able to create engaging backgrounds for their Shorts, as well as standalone 6-second video clips early next year.
Dream Screen starts with an initial text prompt and uses Imagen 3 to generate four different images. Creators can choose from these options an image with their preferred style, composition, or aesthetic. Veo then generates a high-quality 6-second background video with the selected image, tailored to the user’s creative vision.
By 2025, creators will be able to use Dream Screen to create six-second standalone video clips, such as an underwater reveal of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Empowering everyone’s creativity
We hope that these new video and music creation technologies will enable more people to realize their ideas in vivid and innovative ways.
To identify AI-generated content, these creations will be watermarked using SynthID, and YouTube will apply a label that clearly indicates to viewers that they have been generated by AI.
We are continuously improving our generative AI models and hope to contribute to building technologies that unleash creativity from everyone, everywhere.
