When using apps, Apple Pencil mirrors your Mac’s cursor, essentially turning your tablet into a large trackpad.
Built for artists, Apple Pencil lets you draw in your favorite creative programs.
Your handwriting on your iPad screen will also be converted to your Mac.
Gesture input lets you scroll and zoom on your Mac using one- and two-finger gestures, like a trackpad.
iPad Pro with Hover can also be used with Slate. Move Apple Pencil over the surface of your iPad, then tap the stylus to click.
On older iPad models, you can also use simulated hover gestures. Lightly drag Apple Pencil across the screen with adjustable pressure levels. Tap your Apple Pencil on the screen to click.
Like traditional tablets, the app also supports screen mapping. This allows the pipe’s entire screen to expand to map the entire Mac display. You can adjust it if necessary.
Astropad Slate is currently available for iPad only on the App Store. This is a one-time purchase of $19.99. There are no subscriptions or in-app purchases.
You’ll also need to download the companion Mac app. You can then connect your Mac and iPad using Wi-Fi, a USB cable, or peer-to-peer networking. A USB cable is the fastest and lowest latency option.
iPads require iPadOS 15 or later, and Macs require macOS 11 or later.
Please note that this app is different from Astropad Studio. While Studio mirrors your Mac onto your iPad’s screen, Slate offers a screen-less tabletop for your Mac.
