Apple was expected to release iOS 17.4 in early March to beat the EU-imposed March 8 deadline for the company to deliver all changes that apply to Safari, App Store and iOS in the 27 EU member states. In EU countries, you can use browsers other than the WebKit engine, choose a default third-party contactless payment app, and choose an alternative third-party app store to install apps from.
Developers can process in-app purchases through alternative payment processing platforms and avoid the so-called Apple tax, which is reduced to 10-17% in the EU from 15-30% in other regions. Those living in the EU can thank the Digital Markets Act (DMA) for these changes, while those in other countries who use iPhones can look forward to their own DMA.
iOS 17.4 includes Stolen Device Protection, which makes it harder for password-stealing monsters to steal your phone and change your Apple ID and password, reset Face ID and Touch ID, disable Find My App, and create a new Apple ID and password. Features are improved. Your finance app can control and annihilate you. This feature requires you to verify your identity using Face ID and Touch ID before changing your phone. More sensitive operations will require verification of Face ID and Touch ID and will be held for an hour before certain changes become official. This way, if you realize your iPhone has been stolen, you can call Apple and let the company know.
When Stolen Device Protection Was Released iOS 17.3, users can enable or disable it to work in unfamiliar locations. in iOS 17.4 adds new options that allow you to disable the feature, enable it for use in unfamiliar locations, or set it to always be on. Personally, I chose the latter because I felt like it would protect me from password thieves everywhere.
with iOS 17.4, The Apple Podcasts app lets you read transcripts of your favorite podcasts, including full episodes. You can tap any part of the transcript to listen to the podcast from that point or search for a specific word or phrase. When a podcast plays in the app, the transcript is highlighted to match what you’re listening to.
