Famous manga artist and Dragon Ball author Akira Toriyama has passed away. He was 68 years old.
The news came this morning in an open letter from Toriyama’s manga studio, Bird Studio. In a letter posted on the official Dragon Ball X account, Bird revealed that Toriyama died of acute subdural hematoma on March 1. A private funeral was held, and the studio asked fans to respect the Toriyama family’s privacy. You can read the full letter below.

It is with deep sadness that I inform you that cartoonist Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st from a subdural hematoma. He was 68 years old.
It is our deepest regret that while he is creating with great passion, he still has multiple works. He also probably had more to achieve.
However, he left behind numerous comics and works of art in this world. Thanks to the support of countless people around the world, he was able to continue his creative activities for over 45 years. I hope that Akira Toriyama’s unique creative world will be loved by everyone for a long time to come.
We share this sad news with gratitude for the kindness shown during his life.
