Google is expanding its AI-powered editing tools, previously limited to Pixel devices and paid subscribers, to all Google Photos users for free. It includes features like Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Portrait Light, and more.
These tools were only available to Pixel devices and Google One subscribers, but now Google is making them accessible to more users. This expansion is part of Google’s efforts to provide more value to users and compete with other AI-based editing tools on the market.
However, there are some requirements and limitations to be aware of. The tool will begin rolling out on May 15th and may take a few weeks to reach all users. Additionally, there are hardware device requirements such as minimum RAM and OS version to use the tool on ChromeOS and mobile devices.
Magic Editor is a great feature that leverages generative AI to perform complex photo editing like sky replacement and object removal. This tool was previously only available for Pixel devices, but is now available to all Pixel users and iOS/Android users who meet the device requirements.
All Google Photos users have access to most features, but Magic Editor saves are limited to non-Pixel users. You can save 10 times per month; additional storage requires a premium Google One plan.
Overall, the goal of this expansion is to democratize AI-powered photo editing and provide users with advanced editing features directly within Google Photos.
